Custom Filters are robust controls a user can create within Countercyclical to query for certain assets that meet an investable set of characteristics.
Whereas most platforms allow for just a few forms of filtering to expose certain metrics, Countercyclical allows you and your research team to do much more.
Not only can you create multiple Rules when crafting a single query, but we also give you the ability to create multiple Groups of Rules based on the plan you're on - allowing you to consider multiple scenarios in a single query against our data providers.
Rules in Custom Filters are custom conditions a user can add to their Custom Filter that checks to see if certain measurements have been met.
Multiple Rules can be added to a single Group and used to consider a range of permutations for your search query.
We give Countercyclical users the ability to filter at the line-item level for most fundamental financial metrics possible.
Just like when searching for a Company or when you and your team are working within an Investment, you can search for metrics based on the following groups:
We are continuously updating this feature to support other metrics.
If you have any suggestions or feedback, please send us an email at support@countercyclical.io
Capital Structure
Income Statement
Cash Flows
Balance Sheet
Multiples
Returns
Miscellaneous
You can select between one of the binary options for filtering your metric:
Is (Default)
Is Not
This will determine how the metric you choose interacts with comparison operator and, ultimately, the entered value you're tracking against.
We support common mathematical comparison operators when building Custom Filters such as:
Around
Between
Less Than
Greater Than
If you need more operators than these such as greater than or equal to, please reach out to us at support@countercyclical.io
After outlining some parameters in a Rule, you may come across a few different types of inputs based on the metric, root cause, and comparison operator that you chose. These could be:
Please be aware that some binary and comparison options may be disabled based on the criteria you're searching for.

Standard Inputs
Currency-Based Inputs (Most Common)
Percentage-Based Inputs
Ratio-Based Inputs
Name-based inputs allow a user to fuzzy search based on the value they enter.
This is, in may ways, very similar to how regular Search works under the hood in Countercyclical.
Currency-based inputs are some of the most common inputs you'll use when creating Rules for Custom Filters.
These types of inputs allow you to filter for specific monetary amounts, which can be useful when looking at different company sizes.
We support the following magnitudes for the currency-based input values:
Thousand
Million
Billion
Trillion
Percentage-based inputs are very similar to currency-based inputs, but instead of filtering based on a monetary value, you are filtering based on a percentage.
Ratio-based inputs are very similar to percentage-based inputs, but instead of filtering based on a percentage, you are filtering based on a ratio/multiple.
Removing a Rule might occur if it does not make sense for the assets you're looking to filter for.
You can perform this action by clicking on the trash can icon next to the Rule you'd like to remove:
You will be asked to confirm the deletion of the rule via prompt.
If you want certain Rules applying to a different permutation for your search results, you can create another Group and either add new Rules to that Group, or you can transfer existing Rules from one Group to another via the drag and drop functionality.
Groups in Custom Filters are effectively a container for Rules that determine the relationship the Rules have with one another.
A user can create multiple Groups within a single Custom Filter (up to 3 for Pro users, and Unlimited for Enterprise users), allowing the user to craft a robust query against the criteria they searching for in the capital markets.
Groups will always have at least 1 Rule in them at all times.
If you transfer the last Rule in a Group to another Group, the Group you transferred the Rule from will be deleted.
Rule Relationships determine how Rules within a Group interact with one another.
There are 3 different types of Rule Relationships that Countercyclical currently supports for Groups:
"All" (Default)
"One"
"Some"
"All" Rule Relationship
The "All" Rule Relationship is the default Rule Relationship for groups, and requires that all the Rules have to be met in order to return any results.
"One" Rule Relationship
The "One" Rule Relationship requires that just one of the Rules in a Group has to be met in order to return any results.
"Some" Rule Relationship
The "Some" Rule Relationship requires that the first 3 Rules in a Group have to be met in order to return any results.
You can change a Group's Rule Relationship by clicking on the Group Settings button in the right side of where the Groups are located:
Upon clicking on this button, you will be presented with a dropdown that will show you a section dedicated to the 3 different Rule Relationship options:
By changing one of these, you will notice a popup in the bottom right-hand corner indicating the new Rule Relationship that's being applied to the Group.
Renaming a Group is easy. Simply click on the Group Settings button (see image above) and change the input value to the desired group name:
The max Group name length is 24 characters.
You don't need to click a button to Save this action, and you will know the name of your Group has been successfully updated by a popup in the bottom right-hand corner.
All of the Rules within a Group will be deleted if you decide to remove a Group.
Removing a Group will delete the Group and all of the Rules within it. To do this, simply click on the Group Settings button (see image in Changing a Group's Rule Relationship) and click on the bottom-most button to remove the Group.
You will also be prompted with a confirmation so as to ensure you are deleting the Group that you want to remove:
There will always be 1 Group as a minimum when creating a Custom Filter. You will need 2 or more Groups in your Custom Filter to perform this action.
Spending time on creating a Custom Filter could be a worthwhile investment not just for yourself, but your team as well!
By saving your Custom Filters, you can reuse queries over and over again along with sharing them with different visibility levels
Naming your Custom Filters is a great way to find and reuse your favorite queries for asset discovery.
Simply click on the collapsible item called "Save Filter" to show the name and visibility inputs for the Custom Filter:
After opening this section, you can now edit your Custom Filter name and visibility.
There are 2 current visibility options for Custom Filters, with 2 more in development that are soon to be released!
A Private Custom Filter is just available to you/the creator.
A Workspace Custom Filter is available to your entire workspace. This is useful for small, agile teams.
A Team Custom Filter is available to a designated team within your workspace. Only members invited to this team can use this Custom Filter.
A Shared Custom Filter is available to one-off invitations to members within your workspace.
The ability to share Custom Filters outside of your workspace will be bundled with this feature.
Countercyclical will soon support AI-powered Custom Filters.
We're looking forward to releasing this feature in the upcoming future!
